Clare studied fashion design at Ravensbourne College of Art and later earned a Master’s degree in Fashion Knitwear from the prestigious Royal College of Art in London.

Her impressive graduate collection caught the attention of Calvin Klein, who hired her as a designer. Clare relocated to New York and remained with Calvin Klein for four years before joining Ralph Lauren as the head designer of the Men’s Purple Label. In 1998, she played a pivotal role in launching the line.

In 2000, Clare returned to London and was appointed as a senior designer at Gucci, working alongside the renowned Tom Ford during the brand’s transformative reinvention and global rise.

Clare was appointed Creative Director of Pringle of Scotland in 2006. Under her creative leadership, she completely rebranded the heritage knitwear label, receiving widespread critical acclaim for her innovative designs.

In May 2011, Clare was named Creative Director of Chloé. Her romantic and effortless design aesthetic aligned perfectly with the house’s codes, infusing Chloé with a fresh sense of vitality and revitalising its Parisian presence.

In March 2017, Waight Keller made history as the first woman Artistic Director of the esteemed Parisian Maison Givenchy. During her tenure at Givenchy, Keller relaunched the Haute Couture runway shows and significantly enhanced the brand’s global image, elevating Givenchy to a prominent position as a major Couture Maison and a leading Ready to Wear brand.

After leaving Givenchy, Clare embarked on a new journey, working between London and Tokyo with the Fast Retailing brand, Uniqlo. In September 2023, Uniqlo launched a unique concept collection called Uniqlo:C, which was an overwhelming success. A year later, in 2024, following the critical acclaim of the initial collection, Fast Retailing Chairman Mr. Yanai appointed Clare as Uniqlo’s inaugural Global Creative Director for Women’s and Menswear. In this role, she oversees the company’s $23 billion business.

Throughout her illustrious career, Clare has gained a reputation for dressing celebrities. In 2018, she was honoured with the prestigious task of designing the Royal Wedding Dress for Meghan Markle, Duchess of Sussex, for her wedding to Prince Harry. Her red carpet successes include Cate Blanchett, Beyoncé, Rihanna, Margot Robbie, Lady Gaga, Angelina Jolie, Nicole Kidman, Chadwick Boseman, Sam Mendes, Harry Styles, and Joaquin Phoenix.

Clare’s talent and achievements have been recognised with numerous awards. In 2018, she was awarded the prestigious title of Womenswear Designer of the Year at the British Fashion Awards. In 2019, she was further recognised as the most influential designer in the world by Time Magazine’s Time 100 Awards.
