Layla Al Tawaya is a Palestinian-Jordanian fashion designer based in Paris. Her work draws inspiration from historical dress and subcultures, reinterpreting familiar garment archetypes through contrasting references, material experimentation, and reconstruction.
Her graduate collection from Parsons Paris, Perfected Perfecto, explores the contrast between the 1950s biker jacket and the 20th-century ballerina tutu, drawing inspiration from the British punk movement. Through techniques such as décollage and material reversals, biker jackets are reconstructed in tulle and lace, while tutus are reimagined in leather, combining elements of both garments into new forms.
Layla was selected as one of ten finalists at the International Hyères Festival of Fashion, Photography and Accessories, where she received the Prix L'Atelier des Matières. As part of the festival, she collaborated with Lesage, one of Chanel's Métiers d'art houses, to develop a transparent tweed incorporating embroidery and lace. She has also gained experience at Iris van Herpen in the atelier and Chloé, where she worked as a Flou Design Assistant for show and pre-collections.
